WELCOME to the Journal Project! If you are new here, hello there! My name is Kina Forney. I'm an artist who loves to paint and draw, and also make things. You can see some of my work here on my website in the Portfolio section, or on my Instagram. I'm here to tell you all about my very first Kickstarter project; a bullet journal of my own making! I'm on a mission to create a locally made, sustainably sourced journal that also looks and feels awesome. I'd love to introduce you to the creative art of bullet journaling, and I have a bunch of stuff you can use to get started! For the nitty gritty details about this project and for more of my story, read below!
This is a self-made printed booklet that is the same size as the journal containing a collection of instructions on how to design different layouts for bullet journals. This is very helpful when you're beginning your journey with a brand new blank journal. The booklet contains everything you need to create different layouts for your week, month, and year. Bullet journaling has a large, growing community of people creating fun ways to customize their planners. These templates show a variety of ways to make your journal something you look forward to spending time with by offering suggestions and examples of different ways to customize it.
Twenty bags are being sewn by a talented local artisan also based in Ottawa. These will be offered exclusively through Kickstarter. These bags include a large front pocket made with fabric that is custom printed with one of my paintings. The whole bag itself has sturdy handles and is large enough to carry your journal, the template booklet, stickers, and a small pencil case.
Another wonderfully talented Ottawa artist, Shaikara David, is helping me with this project by creating these gorgeous zip up pencil pouches. They are made with the same custom printed fabric as the tote bag pockets. Each pencil pouch will also have a liner and a zipper pull. Only 10 will be made.
For the highest tier, I am offering a custom vinyl sticker as a label for your name which you can affix to your journal (or to anything you wish of course). These are individually printed and laminated by me at home, and you can let me know what you'd like written on them. These weather resistant vinyl stickers are great as decorations for your journal, a water bottle, laptop, tablet, etc..
The one thing I love more than journals are stickers! Stickers have always been a passion of mine, and they are an integral part of the bullet journaling experience. Stickers help with layout decoration, design and organization and are a fun and creative way to plan your day, week and month. I am passionate about illustration and am including tons of fun stickers for a variety of occasions and purposes. For updates on the sticker designs as I make them, please check my website.
Ever since I was young, I have always kept a journal. Inspired by my mother's daily journaling, I took to it as a young woman and have kept a daily journal for over 25 years! Over the years I've gotten pretty picky about what kind of journals I use - I always carefully choose high quality journals which act as diary, planner, scrapbook and sketchbook alike. As a graphic designer, illustrator, and painter, I have always dreamt about designing my own journal and accessories.
Now that I have a strong body of work, I want to share it with others on different kinds of stationery. I decided to start by making a journal. I have a strong love for stationery and want to make sure that I make something that I would use myself. I have been using a 5 mm dotted grid bullet style journal for several years and I find them to be the best fit for creating custom designs.
I have chosen two of my paintings to use on the cover, and I am also personally designing the interior of the journals that suits my needs. Next, it's time to search for a printer to make these journals become a reality.
Three hundred copies of this journal will be made. Since the funding campaign is complete, stay tuned for when the journals will be available through my shop! These are high quality journals for serious stationery lovers. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed making them!
I intend to use this project as a stepping stone to create more sustainably sourced stationery. In the future I plan to have different cover designs for additional journals, as well as fully designed interiors of journals tailored to different needs. Be it stationery, letterheads, envelopes, stickers, memo pads, etc., I want to make them all (and environmentally friendly, too!). One project at a time, though :)
Thank you so much for your support!
